The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) Zone B, Coordinator, Comrade Okereke Godson C. Bishop, has commended the Imo State Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, for declaring a state of emergency on the construction and rehabilitation of the Nekede Federal Polytechnic cum FUTO/Obinze road.

He recalled that for over eight years within the administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the students, as well as the entire Owerri West community, were living in hell following the deplorable state of the road.

It was as a result of the excitement upon learning that the governor has prioritized the school road for immediate construction, that Okereke exclaimed, “upon the greatest Nigerian students! Dear compatriots resident in Imo State, truly our helper is here! Therefore rejoice oh! Yea FUTO and Nekede students cum lecturers!”

According to the NANS Zone B co-ordinator, despite all forms of publications, entreaties and persuasions, the former governor, Rochas Okorocha, turned deaf ears to the hues and cries of road users, especially students and teachers of the two tertiary institutions.

He wondered if abandonment of the road for eight years was not deliberate, moreso to punish the students which he contended was Okorocha’s stock in trade.

“Today, we are glad to receive the good news of the Governor Ihedioha led rebuild Imo government’s approval to bring the road back to use. Its worthy of note, that barely three weeks after our visit to the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, an opportunity to remind His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha (CON), of the need to salvage this obvious hydra-headed challenge of our students community, and he responded immediately. This is the greatest gift of democracy to our people.

Barely one month and two weeks in office, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, led government is proactively responding to calls and issues and has expressly ordered for the construction and rehabilitation of a Multi-Million naira students community road project in the state and Imolites are indeed grateful.

The erosion, gully and all forms of environmental hindrances on that road makes it difficult for any economic activities to move on in a road which linked and connects two major states capital PH and Abia, crossing over to the Imo state building materials market and then down to Orji enroute to Umuahia. When this road is in use, it will definitely decongest the entire Owerri Municipal, connects two major states, hence, pave way for economic revamps in the state.

Thus, may I on behalf of the teaming Nigerian Students in the region seize this medium to most gratefully appreciate the government of Imo State for coming to our aid and as well urge the contractors to maintain standard which includes drainages and erosion control measures as part of the rebuild Imo Mantra which is quality assurance and durability” he declared.
