-Accuse Ohaji-Egbema IMC Chair of causing crisis
The youths of Assa and Obile communities in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State, numbering over 500 stormed the Imo State House of Assembly complex Owerri on Thursday in protest over imposition of President Generals on the communities by the Ohaji/Egbema Interim Management Committee Chairman, Hon. Damian Ezeruo.
The youths carrying placards with different inscription written, “We will Resist the Imposition of PG by the TC Chairman, “TC Chairman Pls stop creating crisis in Assa and Obile, “No appointment of PG in Ohaji/Egbema we want Election, “TC Chairman is causing problem for Governor in Assa and Obile, “Assa and Obile needs election not Appointment in Assa and Obile”, among others.
Stating their grievances, the PG of Assa community Mr. David Egbula and the former youth President of Obile community Hon. Obinna Ezidinwa, who spoke on behalf of the protesters, respectively, noted that they came to register their displeasure on the Interim Management Committee Chairman, Hon. Damian Ezeruo, over his imposition of the President General on the communities, stressing that for some time, the community has witnessed relative peace, adding that such imposition could aggravate the youths into restiveness.

They pointed out that recently, the IMC Chairman announced somebody as the communities President Generals without recourse to the normal procedure of electing PG in office.

According to them, “we have come to plead to our Governor, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, our House of Assembly member Hon. Heclus Okoro to look into our plight, as the communities in general have demanded for an election of the PG position”, adding that such contest will bring in candidates who are the communities choice.

Furthermore, he stated that the imposition of the President General of the community will cause problem in the area, recalling that earlier a youth was matcheted in the cause of the struggle.

Receiving the protesting youths, the member Representing Oru West in the State House of Assembly, Hon Barr. Dominic Ezeruoha, said the should sheat their sword, stating that their grievances will be addressed by Imo State House Assembly and the State government.

He also informed them that having come from the same Federal Constituency, he will ensure that the right thing is done and bring peace among the people of the area.

In his address, the member Representing Ohaji/Egbema in the State House of Assembly, Hon Heclus Okoro, promised to take their demands to the State Governor, urging them to remain calm and law abiding as they journey back.
Hon Okoro, said that he will ensure stability with the dividends of democracy, urging them to support the Governor in his Rebuild Imo programme and assured that infrastructural facilities particularly electricity that has been lacking in the area will be addressed soon.
Effort to reach the Interim management Committee Chairman on phone for his reaction was unsuccessful as he did not take calls from our reporter or return same uptil the time of going to press.
