It has been said that Rt. Hon. Chief Benjamin Uwajumogu, former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly is dead.

Uwajumogu was during the last election re-elected to the Red chambers of the National Assembly where he represented Imo North senatorial district, comprising Ihitte/Uboma, Obowo, Ehime Mbano, Isiala Mbano, Onuimo and Okigwe LGAs. He was tipped to replace Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, as the Senator Chief Whip before the ugly incident

He was first elected into the Imo State House of Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011, to represent Ihitte/Uboma state constituency before his emergence as the Speaker, a position he occupied for four years before he was elected to represent Okigwe zone in the senate following his victory at the re-run election that pitted him against his former and erstwhile political ally, Chief Athanasus Achonu (one arm general).

He was before going into full time politics, the Proprietor and Managing Director of Eastern Comfort Hotels and Suits, Umuahia, Abia State, where he lived for a greater part of his life.

Reports that fielded from Abuja have it that Chief Ben Uwajumogu died early hours of yesterday.

According to Punch Newspaper,Senator Rochas Okorocha while Reacting to what earlier appeared like a rumour,said in affirmative that “Uwajumogu is dead”.

Meanwhile,the Chief Whip position became vacant following the imprisonment of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.It was further gather that the senate was to seat today to elect from the south East APC senators,one to occupy the said position.
