Labour Party senatorial candidate for Owerri Zone, Sir Basil Maduka, has said that holiness is essential in mankind’s relationship with God. He called for moral rectitude, integrity in both faith and governance.
Maduka spoke during the 1st Session of the 2026 12th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Mbaise, held at St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Nguru-Nweke, in Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State.
The LP candidate for Imo East Senatorial District, who emerged victorious in his party’s primary the previous day, referenced Proverbs 14:34 while addressing journalists.
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people,” Maduka said. “A society’s success depends on justice and truth, while corruption and systemic vice lead to its downfall.”
A Knight of the Church, Maduka made generous donations to support the church and its projects during the fundraising session. He told the congregation that he was at the synod to advance God’s work.
“I came to support the church in its fundraising for various projects. I’ve given my widow’s mite in promoting the work of God,” he said in an interview.
“As a major stakeholder, it is the normal thing to do. We use part of the resources God gave us to help build the church, because He has been good to us.”
Maduka was accompanied by Hon. Chidiebere Darlington Anyanwu, Labour Party candidate for Ezinihitte/Ahiazu Mbaise Federal Constituency, and Hon. Lady Chika Anyanwu, LP aspirant for Owerri North Constituency, among others.
