It was a glow of massive celebration at the Assemblies of God Church, which situate at Owerre Nkworji in Nkwerre local government area of Imo state, as the christian mothers joined their counterparts all over the country to celebrate their day. The people of the area had gathered from all walks of life to honour and celebrate their mothers with gifts, showers of love and accolades.

The President of the Women’s Ministry, Mrs Chidimma Oleka, expressed her heart felt gratitude to all the participants for putting their efforts and resources together in order to be part of the national women celebration of the Assemblies of God Church Nigeria. The memorable occasion was furnished with fascinating programmes that were beneficial to everyone in attendance.

The preacher of the day, Mrs Priscilla Otuokere, gave a sermon with the topic “Heralding the goodnews”. Her Bible text was taken from the book of Matthew chapter 24:14. The sermon was centered on “Evangelism and the importance of the gospel of Jesus Christ”.

According to the preacher, the gospel of Jesus is mightier than everything and is capable of turning a sinner to a saint. She also dwelt on the importance of preaching the gospel which are to save the perishing souls, to salvage a deplorable situation and to set the captives free.

In summary, she urged all sinners to repent, assuring them that Jesus can save everyone despite the depth of a person’s sin.

Evang. (Mrs) Chinonye Precious Iwuagwu, the wife of the Orlu East District Superintendent, who also took part in the occasion described the mothers’ day as an opportunity given to the women to showcase their talent and potentials especially towards the edification of the Church.

Two guest missionaries, Mrs Eunice Ibeh and Mrs Eunice Kanu, who graced the occasion thanked the women at the end of the service for their great performances. They testified that they have learnt many new things from the celebrants and will go to their states to teach their fellow women what they have learnt. They said that the women of the Church in a rural area have performed better than some women in the urban areas.

Rev. S.C Otuokere, the Senior Pastor of the Church, while addressing some journalists at the occasion said that, this year’s mothering Sunday is a product of hardwork. “Assemblies of God Church gives women their ministry in the Church for them to reach out to other women and become great influence to the Church and society. Women are noble vessels in the Church that help the pastors and the Church at large”, he averred.

The Orlu East District Superintendent, Rev. C Iwuagwu, while also speaking with some newsmen said that, the essence of mothers’ day celebration is to give women a say and a sense of belonging in the Church. He added that the celebration promotes oneness, unity and love among the women.

According to him, the celebration was excellent and creditable and deserves God’s blessings and prosperity.
