No fewer than 200 indigent pupils in Obudi-Agwa Central School, Agwa, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State have benefited from the Back to School project of Rotary Club of Owerri (District 9142).
Each of the beneficiaries received school bag and other writing materials such as Crayon, Pencil, Eraser, Sharpener, Rulers, Exercise books, Biro among others.
Speaking to Newsmen shortly after the distribution of the materials on Wednesday, Barr. Joy Oluchi Umealor, Committee Member, Maternal and Child Health of the club said the event was part of the club’s basic education and literacy awareness programme.
She disclosed that the club intend to extend the exercise to more indigent pupils in other schools across the seate, stressing the next point of visit would be Obazi Girls Secondary School, Mberi in Mbaitoli LGA where over 200 pupils will also benefit.
Barr. Umealor said, “today the Rotary club of Owerri fulfilled her promise by distributing school bags and writing materials to indigent pupil in Agwa community primary school Oguta LGA. As part of their Basic education and literacy Awareness.
“As you are aware, in Rotary Club, we provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
“And our International’s Strategic Plan Core Values include: Service, Fellowship, Diversity, Integrity and Leadership.”
The event had in attendance notable leaders and members of the club including Rtn Dr Nneka Ewenike, 2019 (Connect) President, Rtn Dr Jude Njoku, Chairman Basic Education and literacy Committee Chairman, Rtn BARR Uche Oguwuike, Director Service projects among others.
