As Imo State government, under the rebuild administration of governor Emeka Ihedioha continues to receive accolade for the return of full activities a cross the Local government councils in Imo State and prompt payment of Traditional rulers’ allowances in the State, the government has come up with yet another program known as Clock-in-clock-out to ensure an end to incidence of Ghost workers.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Mayor Eze disclosed this on Thursday while speaking with newsmen in Owerri.

Eze, a former local government chairman, described as unspeakable and unbelievable for any of the council area in the state to pay as high as N55million per month as salaries to its workers.

He expressed happiness that majority of the councils have keyed into the system, pointing out that the system would certainly help government to save money as it would weed out ghost workers.

He cautioned the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state against being an association of ghost workers, expressing shock that some civil servants initially opposed the clock-in-clock-out system.

The former Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Imo State chapter insisted that payment of salaries is not the only responsibility of councils and urged those undermining the councils to have a rethink.

He refuted report that the 27 council areas were executing identical projects, stressing that apart from stadia and secretariats, the councils were also executing projects peculiar to their needs.

He pointed out that even in the execution of the stadia and secretariat projects, councils which already have these facilities have advised to execute other projects needed in their areas.

Eze insisted that the state government is only playing supervisory and monitoring role to ensure funds belonging to the people were not wasted and that projects were executed according to specifications.

The governor’s aide expressed happiness at the victory of Gov. Emeka Ihedioha at the tribunal last Saturday.

He counseled those challenging the governor’s election to sheathe their swords and join hands with the governor to rebuild the state.

Eze said; “I’m happy we have won. On behalf of governor, I thank Imo people for their support. The jubilation shows Gov. Ihedioha’s mandate is a very popular one. The governor has once again extended his hand of fellowship.

“It is high time, we stopped bickering and focused on rebuilding Imo so that positive atmosphere already in place will continue to yield fruits.

“Let the petitioners join the governor. I join in pleading with them to understand that God has the final say. Let’s concentrate on nation-building. After all, we are all Imolites; we should work for our people”.
