Daredevil gunmen have once again killed an investor and abducted his wife at Irette Road, Golden Estate, Abba Father Avenue, Umuguma, .in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
The incident which reportedly happened at about 4pm on Sunday, June 1, 2025 has given credence to several previous reports about the nefarious activities of criminal elements who had been unleashing mayhem on residents of Avu, Obinze, Ihiagwa, Oforola and environ for a very long time while security operatives most of who either reside or operate around there questionably pretend as if nothing is happening.
An anonymous source who does not want to be mentioned told Nigeria Watchdog newspaper that the couple were driving in their Toyota HighLander Jeep when the armed hoodlums suddenly emerged from the surrounding bushes.
They were said to be accompanied by two land agents on their way to inspect a property when the gun-wielding masked men attacked them.
“The husband escaped while they held his wife. He later came back to know the fate of his wife. The hoodlums tried to abduct him but he resisted their attempt, hence they shot him dead and abducted his wife.”
As at the time of filing this report the remains of the dead couple have been deposited at the mortuary
“They moved into the forest with his wife and abandoned his vehicle at the scene of the crime. The two agents escaped and I learnt one of them sustained injuries. Policemen later arrived the scene and evacuated the corpse.”
He said that nobody has been able to identify the identities of the couple as of the time of filing this report.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, disclosed that the command had swung into action with a view to rescuing the woman and arresting the suspects.
Okoye said “The Command is aware of this unfortunate incident and has commenced a vigorous operation to uncover the miscreants responsible for the act and ensure they face the full wrath of the law.
Meanwhile, the Area Commander in charge of Owerri Urban is currently conducting an intensive combing of the forested areas in Owerri West LGA, in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, with the aim of rescuing the kidnapped woman.”
Reacting to the tragedy, the founder of Stand For Humanity Foundation, Chidiebube Okeoma, berated perpetrators of the heinous act which he said impedes societal growth and development. “No society progresses when investors are attacked, maimed and killed unnecessarily”.
A cross section of Imo people who commented on the development called on the state government and relevant security agencies in the state to sise up to the challenge of ensuring 5he security of lives and property.
They also urged land investors and speculators in the state to be vigilant and make necessary arrangements to secure themselves at all times, as kidnappers now target real estate players in the state for attacks.
They also called on the police to ensure that the preparators of the heinous crime are caught and made to face the full wrath of the law in addition to beefing up security in the outskirts of the metropolis”.
