–  As Cabinet Dissolution Looms

The recent directive by the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma that all Ministries in the state should hand over government properties in their custody to the Commissioner of Finance has sent jitters down their spines.

Some of them who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the situation has become so tense as most of them have never had access to the Governor for discussion.

“From the look of things, we would not be surprised if the governor dissolves his cabinet any moment from now.”

He made reference to the recent unceremonial sack of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief C.O.C. Akaolisa, adding that there is so much suspicion.

“There are speculations that some of us are working at cross purposes. But this is not true. The problem is communication breakdown. For instance, the usual weekly meeting of the State Executive Council does not hold regularly. Aside from that, it is always difficult to see or have an audience with the Governor for discussion”.

Another Commissioner who hails from Orlu zone said, “as things are now, some of us are considering voluntary resignation as an option to avoid being disgraced out of office. Besides, the Governor’s directive is causing confusion. How can you tell a Ministries headed by a Commissioners to hand over government properties in their custody to a fellow Commissioner. It is an indirect   vote of no confidence on one in favour of the other.”

A Government House source who does not want his name mentioned was quoted as saying that some of the Commissioners do not know their left from right. Their claim that the Governor has not provided a conducive environment for them to work is not true. Infact  some of them are creating a bad image for the government through their poor and inept performance. The government has taken note of this and is poised to address the situation squarely.”
