Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Council, Comrade Precious Nwadike, has said that the current coalition of political forces will strengthen opposition, deepen and develop democracy in the country.
Nwadike, who stated this while addressing newsmen in Owerri, the state capital yesterday, regretted the absence of a vocal and credible opposition to challenge some of the anti-people programs and policies of the ruling party. Hence it has become emboldened to the extent of subjecting the people to all kinds of hardship and inhuman treatment.
He also expressed surprise that some members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) are raising dust over the ongoing coalition and making it difficult for political associations to register as political parties. “This is very bad and outrightly condemnable. If former President Goodluck Jonathan had adopted this approach the APC which is a product of coalition would not have come into existence, let alone being in power. There should be a level playing ground for all and the freedom of association and freedom of lawful assembly as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution should be not be infringed on.”
Nwadike, urged all parties involved in the coalition to eschew divisive tendencies and the urge to be used as hatchet jobbers and mercenaries to destroy the coalition from inside like cancer. “More so, when all the opposition political parties have been destabilized by sponsored political jobbers and mercenaries.”
According to him, “the success of the coalition will usher in the dawn of a glorious era for our country and her citizens and restore the lost glory of our dear country.”
