– As Orlu Community Leaders Lament Lack Of Govt Presence, Dilapidated Schools
A High Court Sitting in Orlu, Imo State will on October 7, 2025 begin hearing in the case instituted by the Orlu Community land owners seeking the invalidation of the donation of former Imo State Polytechnic premises, Orlu campus to the Catholic Church.
Recall that the original land owners which is Orlu community, in Suit No/HOR/48/2025 between COMRADE CHIJIOKE ODOGWU, MR. VENANTIUS NNUJI, HON. ELIJAH P. N. UZOMBA (For themselves and on behalf of the people of Umuire, Eluama, Ndiowere and Ndikabia-all in Orlu Autonomous Community, Orlu LGA, Imo State) as PLAINTIFFS and THE GOVERNOR OF IMO STATE, THE HONOURABLE ATTORNEY-GENERAL AND COMMISSIONER FOR JUSTICE, IMO STATE, INCORPORATED TRUSTEES OF CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF ORLU as DEFENDANTS
The Youth President of Orlu Community Chijioke Odogwu, in a chat with the Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper said, “Orlu community is marginalized without any government presence except the Orlu campus of Imo State Polytechnic that has been relocated to the Governor’s home town, Omuma in Oru East LGA. Hence there is nothing again in Orlu. All the primary and secondary schools in the Orlu community are completely dilapidated”.
He called on the state government and representatives of the zone in both the state and federal legislature to remember the community.
He regretted that Orlu community from which the Local Government Area and the zone derived their names had been abandoned with ignominy.
“That is why we are insisting that if the state government no longer wants to use the land which we donated willingly for specific public use, it should be returned to the original owners who have the right to decide what they want to use it for instead of unilaterally donating it to the Orlu Catholic Diocese against our wish”.
