–  Expresses Disappointment Over Gov’s Failed Election Promises

Okenze Blyden Amajirionwu, a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress APC and a member of the House of Assembly for Ngor Okpala State Constituency has berated the Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma over the deplorable and utterly dilapidated state of roads in Ngor Okpala  Local Government Area, despite several appeals by himself and other stakeholders in the area.

Amajirimonwu, in an open letter dated August, 5, 2025, he addressed to the governor said, “Your Excellency, if you may recall, I have had cause to write you earlier on the dilapidated state of road infrastructure in our dear local government area and appealed for an urgent and timely intervention on the roads.

In the said letter, your Excellency, I highlighted for your appreciation, the need to prioritize the rehabilitation and reconstruction of these major roads that connect our people and promote our socio-economic activities. I expected government intervention before the rains. Painfully, there is no more road connectivity between communities as I write you this letter.

Regrettably, nothing has been done and nothing seems to be on the table with regards to fixing our poor road network, hence I am compelled to express my profound disappointment and disillusionment with the deplorable state of road network in Ngor-Okpala, under His Excellency’s watch”.

The former lawmaker posited that the situation has become an embarrassment to the people, particularly those who mobilized support for the governor’s re-election.

He further said, Your Excellency Sir, “it beats the imagination of every right thinking Ngor-Okpala person including those in your government to note that during your re-election campaigns, you had promised to rehabilitate the Ulakwo-Imerienwe-Umuekwunne-Etche and Ulakwo-Nguru-Umuneke-Ntu-Nkwoala Roads. But in a tricky style, the contracting firm owned by Chief Tony Chukwu removed all the equipment and left the site immediately after the election.

Your Excellency, is it not time you have a little compassion and sympathy for our brothers and sisters in your government? They have lost their faces and integrity as a result of your inability to fix our roads!

The reality on the ground today is that as the people of Ngor-Okpala struggle and suffer on these bad roads daily, they vent their frustration, anger and feelings of betrayal on our poor and helpless kith and kin in your administration.

As an agrarian local government area, the economic importance of fixing these roads cannot be overstated.

For an average person in Ngor-Okpala, good road means access to markets and more. It also means the ability to transport goods and services without incurring exorbitant costs, which would otherwise eat into their meager earnings.

Good roads attract prospective customers from neighbouring states like Abia and Rivers into our local markets like Eke Uhie in Umuekwenne, Eke Obiangwu, Ekeukwu Nnorie, Nkwoala Eziama, Orie Umuneke etc, and such influx, boosts economic activities, and improves the overall quality of life for the people.

However, the current state of our roads has made it impossible for people to engage in economic activities without facing significant challenges.

Today, apart from the economic disadvantages, it has also become difficult for our people including your local government officials to access the local government headquarters as all roads leading to the council headquarters have collapsed.

This is a stark reminder of the neglect of critical infrastructure in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area Sir.

The people of Ngor Okpala deserve better than this. They should not be treated like second-class citizens. They look up to their governor to prioritize their needs and work tirelessly to improve their lives.

You are presently the “infrastructure governor of the year,”. Let Ngor-Okpala feel the impact Sir. We are currently experiencing the excruciating pain of poor road infrastructure.

Your Excellency, I humbly urge you once again, and on behalf of the people of Ngor-Okpala to take immediate action to repair and maintain the roads in the local government area. This is a solemn demand from the people who entrusted you with their mandate. The people of Ngor Okpala expect a reciprocation from you”.
