An Imo State based Senior Journalist and Editor of the Christian Voice Newspaper, published by the Owerri Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Sir Sam Uche Macaulay PhD, JP, has condemned it entirely what he described as the reprehensible invasion, harassment and torture of a minor by operatives of the Tiger Base Unit of the Imo State Police Command.
Macaulay, in release he signed and copied to the Inspector General of Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Police Service Commission (PSC), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Civil Society Groups and the media, said, “I wish to draw the urgent attention of the public, human rights organizations, and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to a disturbing incident that occurred in Owerri, Imo State, today 09/08/2025.
On that day, I was informed that the Chairman of the Joint Electricity Committee, Sir Chidi Eronini, had been arrested by officers of the Tiger Base Unit of the Imo State Police Command. In what appears to be a related development, police officers invaded my residence in my absence.
During this unlawful intrusion, they ransacked my home under the baseless assumption that I was hiding there. Shockingly, they harassed and intimidated my nine-year-old daughter, physically dragging her and accusing her of knowing my whereabouts. This degrading treatment has left her emotionally shaken and visibly traumatized.
I categorically state that I am not a criminal and have committed no offence to warrant such a gross abuse of power. The conduct of the officers involved is not only a violation of my rights but also an inexcusable assault on the dignity and safety of a child”.
