Barr Vivian Otti, Chairman, National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Imo State chapter has been chosen to head the Committee that will oversee the 14th anniversary of Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper’s consistent presence on the news stand and the 10th anniversary of the media outfit’s survival of massive government onslaught that was designed to liquidate and ground its operations.
According to the Editor of the Newspaper, Sir Bonny Ajuogu KSJI, Barr Otti, who is also the Special Adviser to the National President of NAWOJ, was chosen because of her impeccable track record and commitment to the fight for social justice and emancipation from the shackles of oppression and repression. Sir Ajuogu further stated that activities lined up for the dual celebration will be unveiled in no distant time.
He also disclosed that the media outfit will, as part of the activities lined up for its 14th anniversary, establish a Foundation that will focus on fighting for the rights of media practitioners in the state with a view to putting an end to the undue harassment and intimidation of Journalists in the course of their lawful duties.
“Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper had celebrated several anniversaries in the past but the 14th anniversary will be a very unique and memorable event because of what we as a media outfit went through in the hands of oppressors in the last ten years or so. A lot of people who are scared of the truth because they have skeletons in their cupboards tried all they could to put us out of circulation but God gave us the grace to survive their destructive onslaught. Hence, we give Him all the glory and adoration”.
