Imolites across board have commended the state government for demolishing shanties at Avu, Obinze, Old tipper park along Owerri-Aba Road, among others places that are known criminal hide outs.
Some residents of the affected communities who commented on the development, expressed delight over the demolition of the shanties which, according to them, are used as hide outs by hoodlums and criminals who use those places as take off points for their nefarious activities. He mentioned areas like Irette Industrial Layout, along Onitsha Road, and those earlier mentioned as constituting danger zones for Imo people.
They commended Nze Chinasa Nwaneri for promptly dislodging them, thereby enhancing the security situation in the area.
Speaking in an interview with our reporter, Nze Nwaneri, said, aside flushing out criminal elements at Irette, Avu Junction, he and his team went further to clear the ongoing construction bridge site at Umuguma, in Owerri West Local Government Area and other places said to be hideouts for criminals.
He further said, “we also recovered another Rescue Mission Layout, off Port Harcourt Road Owerri, the state capital. “All these efforts are geared towards ensuring that Imo State is safe for Imo people. The Governor, Dist Senator Hope Uzodinma is not relenting in his determination to ensure that criminals are flushed out from the state.
According to a police report, most of those who indulge in criminal activities in Owerri and environ operate from some of these demolished shanties. Hence, the directive was well articulated and implemented with precision with a view to nipping insecurity in the bud”.
A resident of Avu, who simply identified himself Chukwuma Ukozo,a security expert expressed optimism that with the latest development, at Avu and other places, they are convinced that the rate of kidnapping and other vices along Avu, Obinze and environ will reduce drastically.
He narrated how most of the criminals use those places as take off points, while others sit in some of the demolished shanties to monitor prospective land developers. “When they see them driving in the trail behind to kidnap, assault and most times, kill and harvest their organs. We commend the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Chinasa Nwaneri and his team who dislodged them and demolished their shanties”.
