In line with its Basic Education and Literacy Project, the Rotary Club of Owerri Newtown, in partnership with Associate Professor Humphrey Akanazu, had selflessly successfully commissioned a dilapidated school block and classroom structures they renovated at UBE Model School, Amaku, Orodo, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, last week.

This dignifying humanitarian feat demonstrated Rotary Club’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and creating a conducive learning environment for children in Imo State.

Speaking, the President of Rotary Club of Owerri Newtown, Rtn. Amaka Ogudo, said the Rotary Club values importance of education, which it sees as the foundation for societal growth, hence the Rotary Club’s commitment to quality academics or learning.

Affirming that the Club is focused in creating serene and comfortable learning environment, Ogudo noted that the Rotary Club is deeply committed to continue the humanitarian service in other parts of the state.

According to her, the project, executed by Rotary Club of Owerri Newtown, was  sponsored by Asso. Prof. Humphrey Akanazu, whose support, she added, made the renovation possible. 

“His contribution demonstrated the power of collaboration between Rotary and philanthropists in addressing pressing educational needs. 

“Akanazu is a principal partner to Docenti Global Business School, Nigeria. He also initiated Rome Business School, Nigeria and served as the first ever Country Manager for Nigeria. He is an Education Management Consultant and a grassroot player who believes in using education to advance development in the society with a view to lifting humanity positively.

“This project is a testament to Rotary’s enduring motto of “Service Above Self” and a beacon of hope for children striving for a brighter future through education”, the President emphasized.

Community members and school authorities also expressed profound gratitude for the intervention, acknowledging the positive impact the renovated classrooms will make on learning and teaching.

“The renovated block of classrooms, neatly painted and equipped with improved facilities, stand as a symbol of renewed hope for pupils and teachers at the community”, she observed.

The commissioning ceremony was graced by members of the Rotary Club, community leaders, education stakeholders and invited guests. 

The project highlights Rotary International’s focus area of Basic Education and Literacy, reflecting the Club’s dedication to promote quality education in underserved communities.
