A case of alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating involving one Mrs. Uche David Obinali, has been brought before a Magistrate Court in Abuja.

Mrs. Obinali, a 49-year-old businesswoman and niece to former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, was accused by Prince Daniel Kanu of defrauding him of ₦127 million.

According to a police report, Kanu, in a petition dated September 23, 2025, filed at the Garki Police Station, alleged that Ms. Obinali collected $20,000 from him under false pretenses — claiming the money was meant for the repatriation of her late brother’s corpse from the United States to Nigeria for burial.

However, investigations reportedly revealed that the said brother had already been buried in May 2024, a full year before the alleged transaction took place.

In addition, Kanu accused Obinali of collecting a Mercedes Benz GLS 450, a Toyota Sienna bus, four containers, and an unspecified sum of money

all valued at ₦127 million in total.

The case was subsequently charged to the Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, last week, where Ms. Obinali is facing charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating, contrary to Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code Law.

The accused, who resides at No. 18, Lord Lugard Street, Asokoro, Abuja, was arraigned and granted bail, pending further hearing.

The matter was adjourned to November 11, 2025, for continuation of trial.
