
The Secretary of the 4- Man Liaison Committee in Imo State for the 2026 Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), tagged Niger Delta Games, Edo-2026), Hon. Willie TC Okolieogwo, says Imo environment is secure and quiet for the state’s athletes in the pre- games.
Okolieogwo gave the hint while speaking during the formal inauguration of Imo State Liaison Committee by the organizers of the 2nd Niger Delta Games slated to hold in Edo State in 2026.
The Secretary of the Committee stressed that the Imo environment, adorned with good roads, coupled with security and tourism attractions, made available by Governor Hope Uzodimma, is going to entise Imo athletes from the various communities in the pre- games to enable them put in their best to lift gold medals in the main competition.
“We appreciate the organizers of the 2nd Niger Delta Games – Edo 2026, for coming to Imo State. Imo is ready for the tournament. The Imo environment is quiet. His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma, has been able to secure this state security wise. That is why we can assure you that we are going to mobilize our contingents – our participants from various communities.
“Those talents that we are hunting from the communities will have a serene environment and at the end of the Games we are going to achieve result. Imo has never carried last and we are hopeful of coming home with rich gold medals”, Okolieogwo added.
While inaugurating the Imo State Liaison Committee earlier, which happened at Ministry of Sports, Imo Secretariat Owerri, on Tuesday, the Managing Director of Dunamis Icon Limited and Project Consultant for the Niger Delta Tournament, Sir Itiako Ikpokpo (Atanaru of Irri Kingdom), who was represented by Sir Fred Edoreh, a veteran sports journalist, advised the Committee to make sure that athletes are richly mobilized and timely registered in the Games official portal, saying only contingents who are duly registered would take part in the sporting activities.
However, the Imo State Liaison Committee are Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha (Chairman), Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Willie TC Okolieogwo (Secretary), Director of Sports, Lady Justina Akpulo and Kennedy Onwunali, an Ace Sports Journalist, members.
