Time To Remedy Marginalisation Among Owerri Zone LGAs
— Omega9 Elites Club appeals to Uzodimma, Owerri zone leaders
A formidable political pressure group operating under the aegis of Omega9 Elites Club (O9EC) has bluntly, demanded that justice be done throughout Owerri senatorial district of Imo state in determining candidates and local government areas that would be given the mandate to represent the four federal constituencies and one senatorial seat of Owerri zone at the National Assembly in the forthcoming National Assembly election.
Omega9 Elites Club, a body of politically conscious elites club with members drawn from across the nine (9) local government areas of Owerri senatorial district and different professional and religious bodies while making the demand at the end of it’s 13th general meeting in Owerri, Imo state capital, insisted that political leaders and parties in Owerri zone should as a matter of decency and genuine patriotism, lead by example.
” We, the people of Owerri zone cannot be complaining that over the years, we have been denied the opportunity to produce the governor of Imo state when in practical terms, some local government areas in Owerri zone have consistently, been denied the opportunity of occupying the senate and house of representatives seat by other local government areas within the zone. This is most unfair. For instance, an area like thickly populated Ngor Okpala local government area has never been given the opportunity to produce either the state governor, senator or minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria since the creation of Imo state in 1976″, the group stated.
In a press statement endorsed by its National Co-ordinator, Rev Unachukwu Iwueke, the Omega9 Elites Club strongly, posited that the only way the present crop of Owerri zone political leaders could justify their clamour to produce Governor Hope Uzodimma’s successor in 2028 is to go back home, look inwards and ensure that local government areas that have remained marginalised in political appointments and elective positions are consoled and adequately rewarded, adding that a situation where injustice continues to prevail in the political equation in Owerri senatorial district, could cost the zone the much desired governorship seat.
The group which expressed deep-seated concern in the political and economic stability of Owerri zone specifically, appealed to Governor Hope Uzodimma who according to the group, is the political father of entire Imo state as well as political leaders of Owerri zone to be patriotic and brotherly enough, to ensure that Ngor Okpala, one of the most thickly populated and largest local government areas in Nigeria in terms of landmass, does not remain marginalized politically.
Omega9 Elites Club argued and insisted vehemently, that it would be most unfair, unbecoming, unbearable, most retrogressive and disheartening to allow for instance, Owerri North local government area to produce another senator for Owerri zone, after Senator Francis Ezenwa Onyewuchi of Orji community of Owerri North serves for two-term of eight (8) solid years as a senator for Owerri zone.
” Senator Francis Ezenwa Onyewuchi of Owerri North local government area would serve out his 8-year tenure in office as Senator for Owerri zone in 2027, in which case, it would be primitive, inhuman and uncivil and ungodly for any body, political party or group to even think, or support any move to make another person from Owerri North to come up as Senator Francis Ezenwa Onyewuchi’s successor.
According to Omega9 Elites Club, the time to wipe away the sorrow and tears resulting from decades of political marginalisation against the people of Ngor Okpala local government area is now that Imo state has a listening governor, Senator Dr Hope Uzodimma, CON, GSSR.
