The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southeast Zone F, has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the tragic death of one of their own, Miss Chinememma Juliet Ejimofor, a student of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFUE), Owerri, who was reportedly found dead in her hostel.
Addressing the media, Comrade Alfred Jacinta Chinedu, the NANS Secretary of Southeast Zone F, conveyed her sadness over the sudden loss, noting that the circumstances surrounding the incident have raised serious questions, stirred public anxiety, and intensified calls for clarity and justice.
Comrade Chinedu stated that the situation remains unclear, with conflicting accounts creating fear, outrage, and a profound sense of mistrust within both the student body and the wider community.
According to her, “It has therefore become necessary that the truth be fully revealed and accountability established through a credible process.”
In light of this, NANS demands:A comprehensive, independent investigation into the cause and circumstances of her death.Identification and questioning of all individuals who may have been directly or indirectly connected to the incident.A critical review of the roles played by university authorities, security personnel, medical responders, and other relevant bodies.Public disclosure of verified investigative findings to ensure transparency and restore confidence.Protection for witnesses, whistle-blowers, and students who possess vital information.A thorough investigation of the residence where the deceased was reportedly found.
NANS emphasized that this inquiry is essential not only to uncover the truth but also to reinforce trust in the systems designed to safeguard students. The uncertainty and suspicion surrounding the case have shaken the community, and only a sincere pursuit of justice can bring healing and reassurance.
The association therefore urges the DSS, Police, State Government, and other relevant authorities to initiate a formal investigation with urgency, sensitivity, and professionalism, and to keep the public informed as findings emerge.
Those present during the press briefing included the Board of Trustees Chairman, Hon. Chukwuemeka Chikere, as well as family members of the deceased, all of whom joined in demanding justice for Miss Chinememma Juliet Ejimofor.
