GROUP REACTS TO MEDIA REPORT
…Says; not only good in birthday,Obituary messages
The Orlu Political Leaders Forum (OPLF) has reacted to recent media reports that castigated the member representing Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Canice Moore Nwachukwu (popularly known as Omeogo), over alleged non-performance and claims that he concentrates more on sending birthday and goodwill messages than on delivering dividends of democracy to his constituents.
The group, in a statement issued by its President, Clinton Nwadialu said that although the federal lawmaker may not have fully lived up to expectations, it was wrong to conclude that he has done nothing.
According to the statement, “While we acknowledge that there is room for improvement, it is unfair to say that Hon. Nwachukwu has not done anything at all. He has established his presence to a reasonable extent, even though more is expected of him.”
The forum further stated that there is nothing wrong with a legislator sending congratulatory and goodwill messages to constituents, noting that such gestures help to strengthen the bond between an elected representative and the people.
“We are also of the opinion that sending birthday and goodwill messages is not out of place. Such gestures portray a lawmaker as caring and attentive to the feelings and welfare of his constituents,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, some political leaders in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, observed that aside from Omeogo—who has been singled out for alleged non-performance—other legislators from the Orlu zone have also failed to give a good account of themselves in terms of quality, purposeful, and people-oriented representation.
They stressed that the situation underscores the need for the people of Orlu to be more thorough and discerning in making their choices as the 2027 general election draws nearer.
