Reports indicate that the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its Ward and Local Government Area (LGA) congresses at the party’s secretariat along Okigwe Road, Owerri.

Sources at the venue said all Ward and LGA executives were returned unopposed, except those who chose not to continue in office.

Some prominent APC leaders in the state, considered part of a potential opposition bloc within the party, were reportedly absent from the event and did not make any input.
It was gathered that Chief Uche Nwosu, who did not attend the congress, was sighted in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, where he reportedly held a meeting with Governor Alex Otti.

Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha was also said to have distanced himself from the exercise. Senator Ifeanyi Ararume was equally absent.

A party source alleged that the outcome of the Ward and LGA congresses is likely to be replicated during the forthcoming State Congress.

“Except for the state chairman of the party, Dr. Macdonald Ebere who is reportedly considering contesting the 2027 governorship election other members of the state executive are likely to be returned unopposed,” the source said.

There were also speculations that some opposition political actors in the state are more focused on personal political interests, resulting in what observers describe as a weak or muted opposition presence. However, these claims remain unverified.
