Orlu LGA Chairman Mbarie’s score card below expectation
– Nnamdi Achi
A recent publication wherein the Executive Chairman of Orlu Local Government Area, Pastor Chris Mbarie highlighted what he referred to as his achievements since he assumed office over two years ago has elicited mixed reactions from a cross section of Orlu Indigenes who are of the opinion that he ought to have done better considering the huge amounts the council receives as monthly allocation.
A labour party Chieftain and former Student Union Government,SUG President of Imo State Polytechincs,Imopoly Comrade Nnamdi Achi, who in a release he issued and made available to the press questioned how the Executive Chairman who he said has received nothing less than #350 million Naira allocation monthly proudly included the grading of a few roads, evacuation of refuse, registering students for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination (JAMB) examination and performing other purely administrative duties in the list of his “monumental achievements.”
Achi, in the release captioned “₦350 MILLION MONTHLY ALLOCATION AND MORE, YET THIS IS THE “ACHIEVEMENT LIST”?NDI ORLU DESERVES BETTER.”, stated that, “The recent publication presented as the “Scorecard of Hon. Pastor Chris Mbarie” calls for serious reflection by every well-meaning son and daughter of Orlu Local Government Area.
When a Local Government reportedly receives over ₦350 million and more in monthly allocations, the expectations of the people naturally rise. Citizens expect to see clear, measurable, and transformative development that reflects the magnitude of public resources entrusted to the leadership of the council.
Unfortunately, listing activities such as grading a few roads, evacuating refuse, registering JAMB for some students, offering limited empowerment funds, or carrying out routine administrative duties as major achievements raises concerns. These are basic responsibilities expected of any functioning local government and should not ordinarily be celebrated as extraordinary milestones.
With the level of financial resources that come into Orlu LGA every month, Ndi Orlu should be witnessing large-scale projects and visible development—well-constructed and durable roads across wards, properly equipped healthcare centers, modern educational facilities, agricultural and industrial initiatives that create employment, and infrastructural investments capable of stimulating long-term economic growth throughout the LGA.
The people deserve governance that goes beyond routine activities and focuses on projects that will transform the economic and social landscape of Orlu. Development should be visible, impactful, and sustainable enough to improve the daily lives of the ordinary citizens who depend on the local government for grassroots progress.
Reducing such substantial public allocations to a list of minor administrative tasks does not reflect the level of development Ndi Orlu expect from their local government. When routine duties are presented as landmark achievements, it can easily come across as an embarrassment and an unintended insult to the intelligence of the people.
Public office is a sacred trust, and those entrusted with leadership must always remember that governance demands transparency, accountability, and results that justify the resources available.
Ndi Orlu are not asking for miracles; they are simply asking for responsible management of public funds and development that matches the scale of the resources allocated to the Local Government.
Sometimes, it is wiser to remain silent than to publish a record that unintentionally raises more questions than answers”.
