– I Have No Wife, Says Lawmaker

The last may not have been heard about the member representing Orlu State Constituency of Imo state, Hon Ikenna Ihezuo, as his latest wife who is alleged to be either the third or fourth has dragged him to court seeking  custody of their children.

Ikenna Martin Ihezuo’s estranged wife, Mrs Abigail Akachi Ihezuo as the Applicant and Ihezuo as the Respondent  in Suit No HOW/FC 012/2025 is seeking custody of their two children, namely, Miss Stephanie Oluchi Ihezuo, a minor born on 13th December, 2020 and Stanley Onyekachi Ihezuo, also a minor born on May, 24, 2023

When contacted for comment by our reporter on the subject matter of the suit as stated below, Hon Ihezuo, in his characteristic manner, threw caution to the wind, and behaved in a manner that is not in tandem with his status as a lawmaker, by insulting and casting aspersion on the journalist who called to hear his own side of the story in line with the ethics of journalism.

Ihezuo, who claimed to have practiced journalism for many years before studying law, aside from harassing and calling the journalist all kinds of names also threatened that he will close down Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper if the reporter who called him publishes anything about the subject matter.

Conclusively, he said, “for your information, I don’t have a wife and nobody has the right to claim that she is my wife because, I am not officially married to anybody”.

That I am the Applicant in this suit by virtue of which I am familiar with the facts and circumstances of this case.

That the Respondent married me customarily on the 29 day of March, 2020,in accordance with the customs and traditions of the people of Ugiri-Ibeme autonomous community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, Imo State.

That immediately after the marriage, we started cohabiting. We lived in both the country home at Umuduruaku village,Eziachi autonomous community, Orlu Local Government Area, Imo State and at Plot 141 Housing Area V, New Owerri, Imo State.

That my marriage to the Respondent is blessed with two Children, MISS. STEPHANIE OLUCHI IHEZUO(aged 4 years)and MASTER.STANLEY ONYEKACHI IHEZUO (aged 1 year and 9 months)who are the subjects of the current application.

Before the commencement of this mariage, I was an employee of Fidelity bank Plc. I worked at the Port Harcourt Road Branch of the bank as a Customer Service and tellering officer. About a month or so after the celebration of the marriage, I discovered that I was pregnant with my first child Stephanie Oluchi Ihezuo.

The Respondent insisted that I must resign from my banking job. He does not believe that his wife would work at such a place and be subject to his perceived harassment or unnecessary the banking jobs brings. I was unwilling to leave my job at the bank, but with his strong persuasion, the Respondent got me to resign.

It was our agreement that we will set up a business which I will be personally responsible for running. He maintained that this arrangement would give me sufficient time to take care of him, the home and our children. In effect, I became a housewife with a promise of business to be established for me” among others.

She further averred “That unknown to me,the Respondent entered into a statutory marriage with one Rosita Nkechinyere Obljiaku,The said marriage was conducted on the 13″day of June,2023 at the Amac Marriage Registry,FCT Abuja, Nigerla.

Before the commencement of our marriage in 2020,1 knew the Respondent had previously been married,I was aware that he had been married to one Chioma Iheanacho from Anambra State.I had no idea however that he had two other ladies subsequent to his marriage to Chioma Iheanacho.

It was at my discovery of his secret marriage to Rosita Nkechinyere Obijiaku in 2023 that I started asking more questions only to discover that the Respondent has always been into marriage fraud.I discovered that the Respondent habitually marries ladies, sucks their best years out of them and throws them out of the marriage,He did so to one Salome Chizoba Ogu from Mbaise and later to Obiageli Calista Nwanne from Amucha,Nwangele Local Government Area,Imo State.

That when I discovered the Respondent’s secret marriage to Rosita Nkechinyere Obijiaku,I confronted him but he denied.Eventually,he admitted it when he saw that I was in possession of undeniable proof. It was after this admission that all hell broke loose.”

When contacted,Abigail confirmed the pendency of the suits at the High Court and Family Court.According to her,she was legally married to Ihezuo, adding that it is surprising to her that the Lawmaker could make such claim.
