–  Tasks Community Leaders On Vigilance, Safety Measures

Following the escalating insecurity that has resulted in multiple deaths, re kidnapping and other vices in different parts of the state, Ezuruezu Mbaise, the apex socio-cultural umbrella body of the Mbaise Nation has tasked leaders of the various communities and villages on the need for vigilance and adoption of stringent security measures aimed at protecting the lives and property of residents.

The group at a recent meeting of its Governing council resolved that the executive should formally inform Presidents General of the various communities and their executive to implement the underlisted security measures with a view to reducing the menace to the barest minimum. Some of the measures include but not limited to “Taking care and full responsibility of the security in your community by liaising with your Traditional Ruler and setting up a viable and effective Vigilante group in the Community.

Have adequate information of non-indigenes residing in your community – their full names, full home addresses and their contact persons in the community. You should also investigate and be sure of the works they are doing in your Community.

Advise your farmers NEVER to go to the farm alone and NEVER to confront any herder(s) and cows seen in their farms but to report such incursion to the Community Vigilante.

People should avoid going to farm on market days and meeting/occasion days when most people are not around, and the villages very lonely.

You are by this, requested to implement these decisions as a Monitoring Team has been set up to ensure compliance”.

Some of those who commented on the step taken by Ezuruezu Mbaise, expressed disappointment that the state and federal governments that have the primary responsibility of ensuring the security of lives and property of citizens have failed woefully in that aspect. Hence the people, having lost confidence in them have decided to take their destinies in their hands.

They also prayed for divine intervention, especially as the 2027 elections approach.
