-Vows Tenure Reference Point For People-Oriented Representation

The member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo state, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere has expressed optimism that his tenure as a lawmaker in the 10th House of Representatives will be reference point for people-oriented representation. 

Ugochinyere stated this in an address in commemoration of his second anniversary as a rep member.

According to him, since assuming office in June 2023,  he has ensured that the dividends of democracy get to his people and he continually strives to get them the needed development. 

He noted that he has a staggering record of legislative and infrastructural achievements, such as reconstruction works, execution of 25 water borehole projects, rehabilitation of 10 schools, empowerment of thousands of constituents, and launch of critical erosion control interventions.

Noting that while the projects are already in use, he said they will be formally commissioned in 2026.

In terms of bills sponsorship, he said he has sponsored over 40 key bills which are in various stages in the parliament, such as Creation of Orlu State and a single 6-year presidential term with rotational zoning.

He said, “I prioritized basic amenities, completing *25 solar-powered boreholes across remote communities. These projects already serve over 50,000 residents: Completed: Umuojiosi Isiekenesie (Ward 2), Umuchoke, Umuopia, Umuezemazu Urualla, Ndiuche, Umueshi, Ekulieaka, Ntueke, Akwu, Ozuakoli, and 14 others.  

“Simultaneously, over 2,000 solar streetlights now illuminate high-traffic zones like St. Aloysius Catholic Church Road, Orie Umuobom Market, and Osina Market – enhancing security and nighttime commerce (Night trading). Over 230 Ideato students (100 in 2023, 130 in 2024) received grants via the *Ikenga Imo Annual Scholarship Exam* for primary to tertiary education. Ten institutions rebuilt, including:  – County School, Akokwa, Comprehensive Secondary School, Umumaisiaku (laboratory block) Technical School, Umuokwara Akokwa , Central Schools in Arondizuogu, Uzii, and Umuaghobe.

“I reconstructed Afor Urualla Market with 30 open shades, revitalizing trade for more than 500 traders and vendors. 66 farmers trained in 2023–2024, boosting food security.  I also sponsored so many motions in the House such as Rehabilitation of Oba-Nnewi-Uga-Akokwa-Arondizuogu and Akokwa-Umuchima-Mgbe-Orlu federal roads. Investigations into arbitrary fuel price hikes as Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources  and was the first to recommend the removal of NNPCL GMD, Mele Kyari as head of the Corporation.  These are just to mention but a few and I’m just getting started, I vow to make my tenure a reference point for people-oriented representation.”
