Chief Martin Opara, former Director General, Imo Orientation Agency who was among the 5000 lawyers called to the Nigerian Barr Association at Abuja, recently has disclosed that what motivated acquire a degree in law is his resolve to fight for the oppressed and victimized through advocacy for judicial reforms.
Opara, who stated this in an interactive session with journalists in Owerri, the Imo state capital, further stated that he will explore all legal avenues with a view to ensuring that the country’s judicial system offers every citizen equal opportunity, irrespective of class and social status.
Barr Opara, who also doubles as the President General of Logara autonomous community in Ngor Okapla Local Government Area and President General of Olu Owerri, the apex socio-cultural organization of the nine Local Government Areas in Owerri zone posited that the Nigeria judicial system as presently constituted does not fully address the needs of the common citizens.
He said ” my foray into law practice is to give hope to the hopeless. To give succour to the oppressed. I intend to explore legal means to achieve this.I know there are many legal and judicial hiccups but I am going to join other progressive minds to champion judicial reforms. We need to have a legal system that gives equal rights and privileges to all citizens of the country no matter the level of contacts and connections.
“Our chambers will concentrate mostly on pro brone cases for people who do not have the means to engage lawyers for legal services. Our resolve is that nobody deserved to be intimidated because of inability to access quality legal services. We believe in a system that serves justices to people without minding whose ox is gored.”
