–  Uzodinma, Izunaso, IMHA Member, LGA Chairman, Others Yet Yo Visit Scenes

The frightening level of insecurity in Imo State that seems to have defied solution and overwhelmed the state government has taken a more dangerous dimension as dare devil gunmen recently stormed Ndi-Ejezie, Umualoma and Ndiakunwata Uno communities in Arondizuogu, Ideato Local government Area of Imo State and killed 26 people, burnt five houses while many others who sustained different degrees of injuries are reportedly receiving treatment in undisclosed hospitals..

Reports available to our news desk indicate that the death toll arising from the massacre of innocent citizens in the affected Arondizuogu communities has risen to 26.Some of those who sustained injury eventually gave ip the ghost at the hospital.

According to a source who pleaded anonymity,”one of the youth leaders who who sustained injury as a result of the attack died on Saturday. After the attack,we confirmed 19 persons dead but shortly after that,we saw some corpses littered in the bushes while other victims died in the hospitals”.

A breakdown of the figure shows that, Ndiakunwata Uno community lost 4 person’s, Ndiejezie community 13 person’s and Umualaoma community 9. Meanwhile 5 houses were burnt at Aniche Obinetiti, Ndionuoha and Ojiabo Akeme communities respectively.

It was also gathered that, aside Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere representing Ideato North and Ideato South Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, no government official in the state has either visited the scene nor issued a release to condemn the unprovoked attack and killing of innocent unarmed citizens.

A source who pleaded anonymity said, “aside the shock, pain and sorrow the gruesome attack has elicited, it is disheartening and the height of insensitivity that neither the State governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Senator representing Orlu Senatorial zone, Osita Izunaso, nor the Chairman of Ideato North LGA, in whose domain the ugly incident occurred has deemed it necessary to visit the scene nor issue a release to console the victims and condemn the attack. I am saying this publicly because it is being whispered quietly in several quarters as an aberration”.

The Spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident in a statement he issued.

According to him, ““Over seven persons” were gruesomely killed in the attack, while an unspecified number of others were critically injured.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aboki Danjuma condemned the incident, assuring that the perpetrators will be brought to book.

“The senseless assault, which claimed the lives of over seven persons and left several others critically injured, was described by the CP as barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable.

“He assured the public that the Command has deployed adequate operational and intelligence assets to identify, apprehend, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Consequently, the CP has led a tactical unit for intense combing of the affected areas and affirmed that the situation is now under control, and proactive security measures have been taken to forestall further attacks and restore lasting peace in the region”, the statement added.
