As Eze Nwosu Preaches Peace, Progress In Orlu

The Isiokwu Ihioma Autonomous Community in Orlu Local Government Area marked a joyous celebration of their New Yam (Iri Ji) festival on September 5, 2025.

 The occasion brought together traditional rulers, religious priests, council of chiefs, village heads, community leaders, and critical stakeholders, who bore witness to the festivities.

The event commenced with a solemn supplication and thanksgiving ceremony at Our Lady Of Fatima Catholic church Isiokwu Ihioma, where the priests, traditional ruler, leaders and indigenes gathered to  acknowledge God’s providence and bounty in granting the community another harvest season. This was later followed by vibrant cultural activities, traditional dances, and fervent prayers at the palace of His Royal Majesty Eze John Nwosu, Idinoba, Oji udo 1 of Isiokwu Ihioma Autonomous Community.

The President General of Isiokwu Community, Walter Oleaghara, in his address provided a comprehensive account of his achievements since assuming office. 

He highlighted notable initiatives, including strengthening education by employing dedicated teachers for the community’s primary school and providing essential facilities. He also revealed the community’s efforts in organizing a vigilant security network, skill acquisition programs, and empowerment initiatives for the youth.

The President General further disclosed the community’s plans for the remainder of the year, including the rehabilitation of their health center, medical outreach programs, erosion control measures, and the installation of a borehole for clean water supply.

The traditional ruler of Isiokwu Ihioma, HRH Eze John Nwosu, officiated the ceremonial cutting of the yam, offering heartfelt prayers for peace, security, progress, and development in Orlu. He urged the indigenes to foster unity, lend their support, and contribute to the growth and stability of the community.

Eze Nwosu, accompanied by other traditional rulers from Umuna and Ihioma Autonomous communities, ushered in the new harvest season by partaking in the new yam, while charging everyone to return to their farms and ensure that every yam consumed in Ihioma is also cultivated within the community.He issued a clarion call to the indigenes to promote self-sufficiency and food security in Ihioma.

Eze Nwosu emphasized Orlu’s rich cultural heritage and blessings, highlighting the community’s potential for growth and development. He noted that Orlu is called the Heartland of the Igbos, revealing that Obi-Igbo is not in Rivers state but in Orlu, emphasizing God’s abundant blessings on the land Orlu both in human capital and in resources natural. He prayed for the emergence of great leaders who would drive development and national relevance from Ihioma.

The occasion also featured the coronation of illustrious sons as village heads and the conferment of chieftaincy titles on deserving individuals. Eze Nwosu charged the newly appointed village heads and chiefs to utilize their positions to secure peace, promote stability, and drive meaningful progress in the community.

Chidiebere Ezenwata Obioha, a finance guru who has made notable marks in the banking sector appreciated Eze Nwosu for the honour bestowed on him to serve as a village head. He appreciated the traditional ruler for his sacrifices, quality service and efficient leadership and promised to contribute more to society building. 

In his benediction, Eze Nwosu prayed that the newly appointed leaders would remain beacons of excellence in their leadership roles, serving as shining lights and solution bearers for the betterment of society.
