Member who represents Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency, Hon. Canice Moore Nwachukwu, has promised that he would address squarely the infrastructure: road, bridges and erosion menace in the Constituency particularly in IhitteOwerri Ward.
Omeogo said such a measure would encourage productivity and commercial activities, thereby reduce poverty, a stigma he said gives room to crime, violence and insecurity.
He made the promise when he received the representatives of IhitteOwerri Ward Stakeholders Forum (IWSF) who paid him a courtesy visit in Owerri, last week.
Omeogo hinted that he has done marvelously for the people especially on developmental projects, assuring the people of his full commitment to seeing that the needful is done to better the lot of the people who he told to continue to support the 3R administration, his representation, vowing that he cannot afford to disappoint them, but makes them happy with continued effective and all- embracing leadership.
Omeogo regretted that insecurity delayed the execution of projects in some part of the Constituency, pointing out that erosion control is purely the Federal Government project because it consumes a lot of funds, but said effort would be geared to arrest the gully erosion menace.
“I must do the needful to ensure that the Federal Constituency is developed even infrastructurally. I have done a lot of projects in the Constituency and more are being expected. Road, erosion, bridge, others, will be looked into especially now that insecurity has reduced”, Omeogo said.
Earlier, the Stakeholders from the 4 autonomous communities that make up IhitteOwerri Electoral Ward in Orlu local government area have called on Omeogo to urgently rehabilitate, as well as construct roads and bridges that connect and serve as gateway from IhitteOwerri Ward to neighbouring towns and local government areas of Imo State, such as Isi-IhitteOwerri Road – leading to the dilapidated bridge that links Uzubi in Ideato.
Speaking, Coordinator, IhitteOwerri Ward Stakeholders Forum, Ezeikpe Odinaka CA Emejuru, appealed to the Rep Member to quickly intervene to ease traffic movement, encourage productivity, commercial activities, peace and security at the Ward.
“You may recall that in the last couple of years, our part of the Orlu LGA has been faced with insecurity of high propensity which had frustrated businesses and safe livelihood in our Electoral Ward as most able-bodied men and women ran away for safety.
“The good news today is that many of them have returned, but their jobs and businesses remain in shambles. Urgent rehabilitation and construction of the connecting roads and bridges that had served as the gateway from IhitteOwerri Ward to neighbouring towns and local government areas of Imo State, which include Isi-IhitteOwerri road, leading to the broken bridge that connects Uzubi in Ideato LGA.
“The Obinugwu road, leading to the fallen bridge that connects Obodoukwu in Ideato. The Akpuru bridge, connecting Ihitenansa in Orsu LGA and the Ezerioha road, leading to the bridge, connecting Akwaihedi town of Nnewi South LGA in Anambra State, is needed, Sir.
“Your urgent intervention to these menace will go a long way to eradicate insecurity, improve commercial activities secure confidence in the voters for your political aspirations”, Emejuru emphasized.
Emejuru who praised Omeogo for performing creditably, wonderfully within the short period of his representation at the Green Chambers of the National Assembly, begged him to lobby to ensure that their demands are captured in the 2025 supplementary and 2026 annual budgets.
“Conscious of the fact that your developmental prowess as a legislator is limited to Constituency budgets and your personal ability to lobby for projects, the 2025 supplementary and 2026 annual budgets are huge opportunities for you to place the rehabilitation and the construction of roads and bridges in IhitteOwerri Ward in your priority list.
“Also, Sir, you cannot serve through your current mandate without addressing the gully erosion that has damaged some houses and may soon swallow up communities in the IhitteOwerri Ward of your constituency”, he added.
