The Orlu Elders Council has joined patriotic individuals and groups to demand for the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a release signed by the Council’s Chairman Prof. F. C. Dike, SAN, Vice Chancellor Prof. A. U. Awuzie and Secretary Prof. Protus Nathan Uzorma, the group condemned Kanu’s continued detention despite court orders granting his release.
The council expressed solidarity with the human rights community, particularly Omoyele Sowore, who had initiated a protest demanding Kanu’s release. They called upon all Nigerians who shared their concerns to join the protest and peacefully demand Kanu’s release, emphasizing the need for a peaceful and non-violent demeanor consistent with democracy and the rule of law.
The council further stated that this approach would amplify the voices of the protesters and underscore the legitimacy of their demands. They expressed solidarity with Ohanaeze Ndigbo and all individuals and groups advocating for Kanu’s release, guided by the principle that an injury to one is an injury to all.
