– Appeals to govt for intervention on deplorable roads in his community

The President of the Orlu Town Development Union, Marcel Okereke, on Monday, January 18, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Imo State Commissioner for Works,Mr Raph Nwosu,Esq in his office, accompanied by Mr Emenike Echendu and other stakeholders.

During the visit, Okereke commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for his massive infrastructural development across Imo State, particularly in the area of road construction and rehabilitation. He also praised Commissioner Nwosu for his dedication and performance in overseeing critical infrastructure projects in the state.

However, the Town Union President expressed concern over what he described as the absence of visible government presence in Orlu Community, despite its strategic importance within the Orlu metropolis.

He noted that although Orlu Community is one of the core communities in Orlu metropolis—and the origin of the names Orlu Local Government Area and Orlu Zone—it has yet to significantly feel the impact of the state government’s developmental programmes in the zone.

Okereke therefore appealed to the Commissioner to use his office to draw the attention of the Governor to the infrastructural needs of Orlu Community.

In his response, Commissioner Nwosu reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma and emphasized the need for government to prioritize the upgrading of key link roads in the area. He specifically mentioned:

Umuna–Orlu–Ugbele Road, which links Orlu and Umuna communities and provides access to Okigwe;

Umuna–Ugbele Road, another strategic route connecting Orlu, Umuna, and Ugbele communities; and

Umunna–Morning Star Road, identified as another critical road requiring urgent attention.

Also speaking,Mr highlighted the presence of the largest pharmaceutical company in the South-East located within the area, with a workforce of over 300 staff, stressing that improved infrastructure would further boost economic activities and productivity.

He reiterated that Governor Uzodimma remains passionately committed to transforming the lives of Imo people through sustained infrastructural development.

“However,” he noted, “communities that are yet to benefit from the governor’s projects should exercise patience, as the administration has well-articulated programmes and everyone will be reached in due course.”
