Resounding gains have now been recorded by the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during its ongoing e-registration exercise, following the mass resignation of leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are now registering in large numbers with the APC.
This development followed the directive of their leader, Evangelist Myke Obinna Ikoku, who mobilised his supporters across the state to join the APC.
This latest political realignment was triggered by the recent resignation of Evangelist Myke Obinna Ikoku from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) a few days ago.
Not willing to be left behind in the successes recorded by Governor Hope Odidika Uzodimma, CON (Onwa Oyoko), members of the group resolved to follow Evangelist Ikoku—whom they described as tested and trusted in leadership—into the APC. This informed their active participation in the ongoing APC e-registration exercise, which they said is being carried out through the proper channel.
Speaking at a press conference in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the PDP Apex Leader of Ngor-Okpala LGA, Hon. Jeff Nwachukwu, who is a former member of the Imo State PDP Caretaker Committee under Chief Chidi Dike, announced that their group within the PDP, under the leadership of Evangelist Myke Obinna Ikoku, boasts over sixty thousand (60,000) members across the 27 LGAs of the state.
He stated that they have received strict instructions from their leader to immediately commence their e-registration into the APC across the 305 wards of Imo State, a process he confirmed is already ongoing.
Hon. Jeff Nwachukwu, a former Imo State House of Assembly (IMHA) candidate for Ngor-Okpala State Constituency under the PDP, disclosed that their decision to join the APC was motivated by the impressive performance of Governor Hope Uzodimma, particularly in the areas of road construction and infrastructural development—achievements he described as comparable only to those of the late Dee Sam Mbakwe administration.
Adding his voice, the PDP Chairman of Ngor-Okpala LGA, Hon. Mike Nkwocha, confirmed that the entire executive committee (EXCO) of the eleven (11) wards in Ngor-Okpala LGA have resigned from the PDP and are now fully integrated into the APC.
He further stated that what has occurred in Ngor-Okpala is similarly happening across the 27 LGAs and 305 wards of Imo State.
He reiterated that the issue was not merely about joining the APC, but ensuring that the process was carried out through the right channel, which he identified as Evangelist Myke Obinna Ikoku.
Both Hon. Jeff Nwachukwu and Hon. Mike Nkwocha revealed that their group is now awaiting the formal reception of Evangelist Myke Obinna Ikoku into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
They also noted that information available to them suggests that their former national leader is allegedly working with the APC at the national level—a claim they described as a misnomer and the root cause of the internal crises within the PDP, allegedly aimed at destroying the party. As people of honour, they explained, they chose to follow a lawful process and align themselves at the right time and through the rightful route.
