The late Mr Anthony Okoroigwe has been described as a hardworking journalist who was committed to the tenets of the journalism profession.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo State Council, Comrade Precious Nwadike, made the description on Wednesday when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the media practitioner in Owerri.

Nwadike who is the publisher of the Nigerian Watchdog newspapers, was accompanied on the visit by the President of the Federation of Mbaise Media Professionals, Comrade Patrick Mgbaja also of the newspaper, and a former Secretary of FMMP, Mr Augustine Agwilonu.

He said that he was pained by the demise as the Imo NUJ is mourning the deceased.

He recalled the late Okoroigwe’s struggles for justice which, he noted, took him to places across the country, including Umuahia, Abia State, Abeokuta in Ogun State, among other places to ensure that the right thing was done in the Imo NUJ.

While praying for the repose of Mr Okoroigwe’s soul, Mr Nwadike urged the family to bear the loss with fortitude.

The NUJ Chairman promised that the council would accord Okoroigwe the full honour he deserves as our last respect for him.

In her response, his widow, Mrs Virginia Okoroigwe, noted that her husband was a good man who believed in justice and fairness in his dealings with people in his life’s time.

She thanked Comrade Nwadike and his entourage for coming.

Also present at the visit was one of the daughters-in-law of Okoroigwe.

He is survived by eight children: five sons and three daughters, among other relations.
