Owerri Sport Club held its President’s Night on Saturday April 11, 2026 in very grand style. The event started with an opening prayer said by the club’s Patron, Ifeanyi Nwobi PhD at about 5pm. Thereafter, the club’s President, Comrade (Sir) Uchenna Nwokeji KSJI, established the protocol, while His Royal Highness, Eze Emmanuel Obiako Commissioner of Police (Retd) performed the traditional breaking of kolanuts.

The highpoints of the events were the inductions of honorary and full members of the prestigious and elitist club.

The five honorary members inducted at the event were Hon. Justice Eze Nonye Eke, Chief Benjamin Nnabue, Comrade Charles Okechukwu Okere, Mr Dele Omosehin and Sir Augustine C Achu” while the new members inducted comprise, Prince Enyinnaya Chike Enyinnaya, Mr Osita Ibekwe, Mr. Ogu Wisdom Enyinnaya, Mr. Abbas Chukwuma Eberechukwu, QS Sir Callistus Chidi Esogwa, High Chief Chijioke Iheoma Ahumaraeze, High Chief Engr. Kenneth Chukwuemeka Ohaegbula, QS Newton Ifeanyi John Onwusonye, Chief Dr. Aguocha Justin Kelechi  and Mr. Ononiwu Uzoma Augustus. 

There was also the investiture of three distinguished categories namely Life Members, Patrons and Celebrities.

Those honoured as Life Members were Mr. John Onuoha, Chief Steve Onu, Chief Obii Okereke, HRH Mike Ekerue, Dr. Uche John Osubor, Chief Emma Amadi, Sir Chux Okoro, Chief Osita Oruche, Chief Okey Anyanwu, Hon. Tito Asekhame, Chief Paul Osuegbu, Rt. Hon. Chuma Nnaji, Mr. Bright Agwalla, Sir Duruaka Felix, Ezinne Maduewesi, Dr. Ifeanyi Nwobi, HRM Igwe Emmanuel Obiako, Mr. George Chukwunyere, Princess Virgy Njamanze Peters and Chief F. O. Ezeani.

The list of those honoured as Patrons at the grand event described as the best and most memorable in the history of the club include Chief Kennedy Desmond, Dr. Alex Chukwulebe, Prof. Remy Uche, Dr. Reginald Oputa, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie, Sir Sunny Nganya, Chief Tony Okanne, Prince Ahukemere Anaele, Chief Joe Ejiogu, Mrs Thelma Johnson Okere, HRH Igwe Patrick Acholonu, CIS Udoamaka Ndupu and Chief Chukwonye Kennedy.

The fifteen people investitured as Celebrities were Mr. Udochukwu Okereke, Mr. Njoku Fidelis, Lolo Queen Akuruka, Christian Obioma, Hon. Ray Emeana, Engr. James N. Chikwue, Mr. Uchenna Obi, Rt. Hon. Godfrey Dikeocha, Hon. Attan Ogoh, Hon. Bonaventure Kator, Lady Thelma Mbachu, Dr. Joseph Ezeogu, Mr. Ugonna Onyekachi, Ms. Akunna Anyanwu and Dr. Sabinus Nwanneako.

A member of the club John .C. Okafor, who spoke to our reporter shortly after the event said, “As is often said, all is well that ends well. We had a very beautiful outing. The weather was nice. Entertainment – music, food and drinks were top notch. Attendance was also impressive, as reputable men and women of integrity who graced the occasion expressed joy, and appreciation. Hence, and they supported the club in various concrete terms.”

The hallmark of the occasion was the presentation of certificates to those concerned and the swearing-in of new members.

The President of the club Comrade Uchenna Nwokeji, KSJI  received one huge sized photo award from his appreciative colleagues – members of 2025 /2026 EXCO. He also received, from some grateful members of the Club, two additional large sized photographs captioned, “OKWUTE” of Owerri Sports Club and KINDHEARTED PRESIDENT of Owerri Sports Club respectively. 

Chief Barrister Osita Nwosu, PhD. who is also a Trustee of Owerri Sports Club was chairman of the occasion. He masterfully coordinated the day’s affairs and e commended the superlative achievements of the President and his team to the admiration of all present. 

 Dr. Nnenna N. made the vote of thanks, while the  closing prayer was said  by Mrs Chioma Chidi Amaliri.
