The Member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu, and the Member representing Nwangele State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, have emerged as the best-performing legislators from Orlu Senatorial Zone.
Their emergence followed the release of the Legislative Performance Assessment Report, compiled by the Legislative Performance Assessment Committee constituted by the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly (OYA). The report was officially unveiled on Sunday during a World Press Conference held at the Assembly’s Secretariat in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
The report also ranked the Member representing Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency, Hon. Canice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachukwu (Omogo), and the Member representing Ideato North State Constituency, Hon. Udeze Ernest Okechukwu, as the worst-performing lawmakers in their respective legislative chambers.
Unveiling the report, the National President of the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, Prince Izunna Obiefule, described the exercise as an affirmation of the people’s democratic right to assess the performance of those entrusted with public office.
According to him, the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly believes that citizens are custodians of democratic values and key promoters of good governance, accountability, and responsible leadership. He noted that societies thrive when they possess the courage to ask difficult questions, celebrate excellence, identify shortcomings, and encourage continuous improvement.
He added that the Assembly remains committed to nurturing such a democratic culture across Orlu Senatorial Zone.
Obiefule emphasized that the report was prepared without fear or favour, political prejudice, or personal malice, stressing that its findings reflect the opinions of the people of Orlu Zone and their collective aspiration for effective representation and better governance.
“History will remember this day, not because scores were announced, but because the people of Orlu Zone collectively declared that public office is a sacred trust and that accountability remains the foundation of democratic leadership.
“Today, we are pleased to formally announce that the National Executive Council of the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly has carefully received, reviewed and unanimously adopted the report of the Legislative Performance Assessment Committee as the official position of our organisation.
“The adoption of this report is not intended to ridicule, embarrass or persecute any individual. Neither is it a declaration of political support for or opposition to any political party or public office holder.
“Rather, it represents a sincere civic effort to strengthen democratic accountability and encourage excellence in public service.
“We recognise that legislative performance cannot be measured solely by the number of bills sponsored or motions moved. It must also be assessed through accountability, regular engagement with constituents, transparency, responsiveness to community needs, youth empowerment, effective oversight, and the visible impact of legislative service on the lives of the people,” Obiefule stated.
Announcing the committee’s rankings, he said:”The best-performing Member of the Imo State House of Assembly is Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, representing Nwangele State Constituency, while the worst-performing Member is Hon. Udeze Ernest Okechukwu, representing Ideato North State Constituency.
“The best-performing Member of the House of Representatives is Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu, representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency, while the worst-performing Member is Hon. Canice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachukwu, representing Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency.”
Obiefule maintained that the ratings should neither be interpreted as a judgment on the personal worth of any legislator nor as an endorsement of any political interest.
Rather, he said, they represent an objective reflection of the evidence gathered during the assessment and the views expressed by constituents across the 12 local government areas of Orlu Senatorial Zone.
He further stated that the vision of the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly is to foster a legislative culture in which elected representatives regularly engage their constituents, communicate their legislative activities, attract developmental projects, empower youths and women, uphold transparency, and provide effective oversight in the public interest.
Describing the report as a landmark achievement, Obiefule said it has established a benchmark for legislative performance assessment and marks the beginning of a sustained tradition of civic accountability that will encourage excellence in public service and deepen democratic governance in Orlu Senatorial District.
He commended members of the Legislative Performance Assessment Committee for what he described as a thorough and credible exercise. He also expressed appreciation to the youths of Orlu Zone for their support and participation at the unveiling ceremony, while thanking Orluzurumee Worldwide and the Board of Trustees of the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly for their unwavering commitment and support toward the advancement of the zone.
