…Says Ruling Party Is Jittery About Losing the 2027 Election

The Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Imo State, Mike Anyanwu, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring armed thugs to vandalise the party’s secretariat complex in Owerri.

Anyanwu alleged that after destroying the party’s signboard, the hoodlums attempted to force their way into the party’s office with the intention of attacking party leaders.

According to him, security operatives intervened promptly and prevented the assailants from gaining access to the building.

He said the alleged attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

Expressing regret over the incident, Anyanwu alleged that opposition parties in the state had continued to face intimidation and harassment at the hands of the ruling APC. He described the situation as undemocratic, warning against what he called an attempt to turn Imo State into a one-party state, a development he claimed had previously been boasted about by the state governor.

He called on YPP members to remain calm, law-abiding and peaceful, adding that the party had already lodged a formal complaint with the police and was awaiting the outcome of investigations.

According to Anyanwu, the Action Peoples Party (APP) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) had also recently come under similar attacks by armed thugs allegedly sponsored by the APC.

“This charade by the APC simply shows that the party is jittery about losing the 2027 elections outright,” Anyanwu alleged.

The APC had not responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
