Some aggrieved villagers have intensified their opposition to the former Imo State Commissioner for Works, Ichie Uchebest Mbanaso, whom they have accused of perpetuating alleged injustices against the people of Orlu during his tenure. They disclosed that in due time, the communities, including Umuowa community who are victims of his landgrabbing antics will collectively declare him Persona Non grata.

Speaking with our reporter at Owerri-Ebeiri and Umuowa communities in Orlu Local Government Area, the leader of the landowners, Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, alleged that Mbanaso was currently keeping a low profile because of the anger generated by the land dispute.

“At present, Mbanaso is hiding. He understands the anger of the people, which is why he cannot be seen at any public function,” Ogidi said.

The landowners commended the Imo State Government for what they described as its intervention in the matter. They also specifically praised Pastor Chris Mbarie for responding to their complaints and supporting efforts aimed at helping the affected landowners recover their properties.

They called on the state governor to intensify efforts to recover other properties which they alleged had been forcefully taken from members of the Orlu community.

Speaking further, Okoro, another member of the group, accused Mbanaso of employing what he described as “crude and ruthless tactics” in acquisition of people’s land.

Okoro said the development had generated widespread anger among the affected communities, adding that the people had declared Mbanaso persona non grata.

The villagers urged the relevant authorities to investigate the allegations and ensure that any property unlawfully acquired from individuals or communities is returned to its rightful owners
