Following a recent Watchdog Newspaper report that a visiting doctor at Federal Medical Centre (FMC),Owerri (name withheld) allegedly infected a patient and some of his colleagues at the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) Umuna Orlu with Covid-19, the Head of Neurology in the hospital, Dr Kaunda Ibebuike, whose test results came out negative on Sunday June 20, 2020, has come out to make a clean state of the events and situation at the hospital.

According to Dr Kaunda,”in the first place,my test result proved negative, secondly the patient on whom surgery was carried out was a young girl not a boy”,adding that the suspected visiting doctor is not a staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.

He deposed that the surgeon was a female doctor in private practice who came to participate in the surgery at the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, where the news of the pandemic broke out.

Dr Kaunda was unable to confirm the health status of the other doctors who participated in the surgery or those of both hospitals, but only affirmed that as at the time of the early news report, his test result was not out, but came out on Sunday, recording negative. He also said that as reported by the Newspaper, the visiting doctor confirmed that she is positive and currently in isolation.

Up to date, all the medical theatres of IMSUTH remain shut while other staff of the institution await their Covid-19 test results.
