-Commends Their Efforts In Restoring Peace, Safety Of Road Users

-Pledges To Collaborate With Agencies

Association of Former Imo House of Assembly Members (FOMIHA) has appreciated the efforts of Security Agencies in Imo State during their courtesy call to the office of the Commissioner of Police and Federal Road Safety Corps Commander respectively. 

The President of the Association Hon. Ugochukwu Nzekwe, former House Member, Nkwerre State Assembly while interacting with  the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma on Wednesday 24th of April 2024, extolled the sacrifices of the state police, highlighting a lot of indices which can be used to measure the level of improvement of security in the state.

He revealed that as experienced former Parliamentarians who are passionate about the stability of the state, their days have been busied with having constructive conversations to ascertain the indepth problems and challenges of the security agencies and be able to work in synergy with relevant bodies and authorities as to ascertain what to do differently to ensure that Imo State is on the path of sustainable growth and development.

According to him, as former Lawmakers, they have structures in their various constituencies and can relate with the grassroots more and fully understand the plights , hence can influence decisions for the good and betterment of the state. 

While applauding their giant strides in the area of security, he observed that most of their members come from areas that are considered volatile like Oguta, Ohaji Egbema, Mbano, Okigwe and would want the restiveness in such areas to stop so that the citizens can go about their daily activities without entertaining any fear.

Hon. Ifeanyi Agwu, a former House Member that represented Ehime Mbano  also commended the CP for his vibrancy, ingenuity and pragmatism, adding that since his posting to Imo State, there has been a lot of improvements in the area of security. He charged him to work harder to ensure that total security of lives and properties is achieved in Imo. 

Responding, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma appreciated FOMIHA for desiring to contribute their quota to security. He thanked them for forming a formidable team to assist in the growth and development of the state. 

He also expressed his gratitude to them for acknowledging the great works of the agency, saying that when he was posted to Imo State, many LGAs in the state observe sit at home every Monday but he mapped out strategies to ensure that security is restored through the help of the Executive Governor of Imo State.

His words, ” It is only few LGAs that are still observing sit at home now.  Orsu has been liberated. We jointly liberated orsu. The Army, Air force, Navy, Police and State government liberated Orsu. 

“There is a tunnel in Eke ututu that leads to Anambra State. It has been there since the civil war and a lot of things happened there. Fortunately the tunnel has been cleared now. We have moved to Njaba and cleared insecurity threats there. We are heading to Okigwe zone to also deal squarely with insecurity in the area. 

“Governor Uzodinma is supportive and committed to security. He should be commended. He has promised to repair our vehicles, rebuilt and equip all the burnt police divisions. He has been asking us to bring our quotations. He has been very helpful. He mobilizes security agencies, both Navy and Air force to ensure security of lives and properties of Imolites. 

In another development, FOMIHA commended the good works of Federal Road Safety Corps in Imo during their courtesy visit on Thursday 25th of April, 2024, saying that their services have improved greatly with the coming of the new commander.

The President , Hon. Nzekwe  expressed concerns on the traffic connections usually witnessed around Nkwoji market axis, stressing on the need to permanently control it to alleviate the plights of the motorists and hinder road accidents. 

He urged the Corps to reveal some of the challenges barricading the discharge of their important duties, assuring them of the group’s capacity to assist in addressing some of their challenges. 

Responding, Imo FRSC Commander, Evaristus O. Ebeniro described FOMIHA as a very good development which shall benefit Imo State immensely, adding that from their experiences as former Parliamentarians they can influence all manner of activities in the state. 

He commended the executive members for forming such association, saying that the best leaders can be found amongst them, while expressing hope that the organization will play vital roles in the state towards peace building, conflict resolutions and crisis management since it cuts across parties. 

He pledged the Corps’ readiness to work with FOMIHA and align with their views of moving the state forward. 

Commander Ebeniro hinted some of the challenges of the Corps which center on logistics. He said that the Corps has only three vehicles which are not enough to respond to their duties efficiently. He stressed on their desire to have a zonal office to improve their work force. 

He thanked the governor for his remarkable leadership, expressing satisfaction with the quality of road construction in the state and requested the governor to intervene on the popular Naze Federal road leading to Federal Polytechnic Nekede, which he said is a strategic road that can help to boost economy of the state when in good shape. 

On the issue of Nkwoji traffic congestion, he stated  that people are stubborn and stiff necked on taking advice and traffic regulations but will only obey and maintain sanity when they see men of FRSC with raffles and koboko.

However, he promised to swing into action and inject personnels into the area to put a stop to the traffic congections
