Sequel to recent efforts being made by Governor Hope Uzodinma to pay some selected retired pensioners their arrears for the past two months after series of protests to Government House a fortnight ago, thousands of the elder statesmen and women who have not received any alert indicating any payment of pension as at yesterday, stormed the office of the Accountant General of the state, to prove and substantiate their claims.

Our reporter  who visited the AG’s office observed that the frail looking pensioners were required to present documents showing that they are genuine pensioners and not ghost.

The required documents include the letter of retirement notice, letter of authorization payment, the pensioners identity cards as well as the certificates of the last verification exercise conducted by the Ihedioha short-lived administration.

As at press time, it was not yet known who directed the ill-fated pensioners to gather at the IICC premises for fresh verification but suffice this to say that many who were contacted  had arrived the state capital from their various local governments, as to beat the time.

One of the affected pensioners who was accosted while begging for money to transport himself home, told our reporter that he was informed that the reception and handling of such complaints would end by Thursday July 9, 2020, at 4pm.

Meanwhile, thousands of unpaid pensioners within the Owerri capital who were caught unawares of the ongoing exercise as well as those residing in the rural communities are at sea of confusion over what to do to.
