A youth body known as Orlu/Orsu/Oru East youths for equity movement, has called on a Lagos based constitutional lawyer and community leader Barr. Henry Chidi Nwuke to contest and represent the area in the Federal House of Representatives, come 2019.

The group made this known after their meeting in Orlu, over the weekend, where they reviewed recent political developments in the area, the need to sustain their mutual understanding as regards the sharing of elective positions, in line with the principles of equity, justice and fairness.

According to the group’s public relations officer, Comrade Samson Okocha, who addressed the press on the resolutions reached at the meeting, the youths resolved to implore Barrister Chidi Nwuke, who has always shied away from politics to consider their plea and contest for the Oru/Orsu/Oru east federal constituency seat to preempt mediocres, political misfits and never do wells, who have nothing to offer and lack the basic pre-requites of leadership to take advantage of the peoples need for a representative”.

He said, the youths have taken note of Barr. Nwuke’s antecedents, track record and the magic he performed in terms of achievements in his tenure as the President General of Umuowa Community in Orlu LGA of Imo State. According to him, “Barr. Nwuke exhibited high sense of patriotism” financial prudence, transparency and accountability that fast tracked the infrastructural development of the community. It is to his credit that Umuowa today, has the largest hospital in the entire south east, the Umuowa children and community hospital, that was completed in his tenure, primary and secondary schools, among other community sponsored projects. If he could achieve all these with the little power and meager resources at his disposal as a president general, you can imagine what he will achieve and attract to us as a member of the federal house of representatives”.

They contended that Isu clan has been consistently marginalized politically hence the need to address the inbalance by ensuring that the next occupant of the federal constituency seat comes from not only Orlu LGA but the Isu clan that has not for once occupied the seat. “Chief Mayor, Eze who once occupied the seat hails from Orlu but the Orsu clan, while Hon. Jeff Ojunka, Cajetan and Chief Jerry Alagboso who is presently on the saddle all hail from of Orsu LGA.

The youths who pledged to stake their all towards ensuring good governance, stressing that “it will no longer be business as usual because the youths have decided to take their destiny in their hands by doing the needful to ensure that political quacks, charlatans and people without genuine and verifiable means of livelihood are not elected to into positions of trust and responsibility. We need knowledgeable intellectuals and professionals whose antecedents, integrity and reputation are not in doubt.
