Mixed Reactions As Okorocha Renews Evacuation Of Eke-Onunwa Road Side Market Traders

Governor Okorocha, who is obviously obdurate to a fault, had earlier summoned members of his kitchen cabinet including the legislators who according to our source, vehemently opposed his renewed plans to embark on another immediate evacuation of traders within the areas under review.

Despite discouraging the Governor from engaging in the same gestapo-like invasion of Ekeukwu Owerri market which took life of 10 year old Somtochukwu Ibeanusi, and left several other victims maimed, Governor Okorocha, who had earlier expressed disenchantment that the traders had defied his warnings to relocate, rode roughshod with a detachment of the Nigerian police, Imo State, command and unleashed the worse form of wreckage and destruction on the defiant and daring Imo traders.

In the stampede many lost their valuables while running for their dear lives. Worst hit was a particular yam seller who was offloading a truck filled with yam tubers which had earlier navigated the very bad portions of the Okigwe-Abuja Road with a menacing damaged spot at Lokpanta without fallen and discharged content prematurely.

As soon as the police reached the location of the shop, they arrested the offloaders and evacuated the hundreds of millions of yams into their waiting pick-up vans and sped off.

It was while they were leaving with the yams and their human captives that our eagle eyed camera man caught the police officers turned yam thieves, who have turned every strategic spot in the state including the Douglas House roundabouts to toll collecting road blocks, escaping with some of the yams.
