Workers of the Imo State House of Assembly under eight affilliate labour units, have passed a vote of implict confidence on the clerk Barr Chris Duru and disassociating themselves from a front page newspaper publication of Wednesday April 10 2019 in one of the Owerri based tabloid, captioned “Imo Assembly workers call for sack of Clerk, list its priority to Ihedioha”, describing it as mischevious, spurious and frivolous.

A release issued in Owerri by the Parliamentary Stafff Association of Nigeria,Imo State Chapter which was signed by its chairman, Comrade Ogu Livina and the secretary, Comrade Ebelogu Chiemeka, the workers stated that the members of the association had not deliberated on issues affecting the clerk or directed any of her members to publish any report in relation to the subject matter.

In the same vein, the Imo State House of Assembly chapter of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, in its own disclaimer disassociated itself from the said publication, consequently claimed that the publication was not from any staff of the House of Assembly but the handwork of those who want to destroy the good relation between the clerk and workers.

In another statement of refutal on the alleged sit tight syndrome, the Imo State House of Assembly Association signed by the chairman and secretary, Mr. C.U. Onuwuneme and M/S Jane Njoku, the association denied knolwedge of the source of the publication wondering how workers will be requesting for the removal of Barr. Chris Duru who they said is their own father.

Other groups which called for the public discountenance and disregard of the vexatious publications include Okigwe Zonal Staff Assoicaiton, Owerri Zonal Staff Assocation and Orlu Zonal Staff Associaton, all of Imo State House of Assembly.

The trio organizational chapter dismissed the publication as done without their knowledge, consultation or involvement hence advised the general pubic to ignore the said publication.

Those who signed their statement for the three zones are as follows;

Okigwe; Ononiwu Isaac, Owerri; Asilom Ikechukwu and Oparaocha while Okubuike A, chairman signed for Orlu.

Some of the workers who spoke to our reporter described Sir Chris Duru as an unassuming adminsistrator,stating that those behind the publication as working for a particular women who wants to desperately take over from the present clerk at all cost.

According to our source the perceived lady claims to have come from Owerri zone and believes she can lobby her way as a clerk through any means.

Meanwhile the issue came up on the floor of the House on Thursday April where members unanimously condemned the publication which they said had no source or author but refered to an unnamed PASSAN.

The house directed the newspaper out to retract the offensive publication.
