The Imo state women, under the umbrella body of Imo Women Frontiers (IWF) have begged the People Democratic party(PDP) not to shortchange women or reduced them to nothing under the administration of Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha, whom they described as child of destiny.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, the President of the group, Chief (Mrs) Maria Nwadialu, stated that there is clandestine moves by some greedy politicians to perpetually make women spectators even when they know that the women have proven their mettle and have over time shown sufficient commitment in the development of the State.

She opined that Imo state should not be left out in the now generally accepted paradigm shift which has become a global revolution that tends to accommodate women prominently in the scheme of politics beyond only playing second fiddle.

Fielding questions on the 9th Imo Assembly leadership, Nwadialu pleaded with both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Governor-elect to kindly consider Hon Ngozi Obiefule for the speakership position if zoned to Orlu.

She averred that Obiefule has shown uncommon character and will ensure a rosy relationship between the legislature and the executive. “I maintain that the best decision PDP can make is to support w woman for speakership. This will not only cause Imo women to identify the party as their own but will spur women to participate more in leadership. Like you know, there is this apathy on the side of women that no matter how much we try, we will not be appreciated.

Interestingly, nobody has said we have failed in the past, instead, we have been severally commended for our resilient and sincerity in leadership”, Nwadialu stated.
