The Students Union Government (SUG) of the Imo State School of Nursing, Okporo who were lately relocated to Ogboko, home of Ex-Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has absolved the government of Imo State of any complicity in the attack unleashed on the students recently.

Recting to different versions of online publication which the union said are trending, targeted at maligning the government of Hon Emeka Ihedioha, as purportedly chasing back the students to Okporo, using hired thugs from Mbaise, the Students Union Government (SUG) in their release signed by it’s President, Comrade Francis Franklin Chimankpa, described as ridiculous and false, the allegation.

They alleged that those who harassed and molested the students at the College of Nursing were select youths of Ogboko, who were hired by those they called mischievous elements, whose stock in trade is to misinform the general public by sponsoring street urchins to attack the school.

According to the release, the sponsors of the hoodlums that invaded the Ogboko school are hostel and hotel owners at Ogboko and environs, who believe that the presence of the Nursing students in Ogboko would attract patronage to their businesses.

The release stated further, “it would be recalled that the outgone governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha had almost at the end of his tenure relocated the Imo State college of Nursing to Ogboko, Ideato South, being his home town which did not go down well with the students.

As students leaders of the institution, we officially wrote to the government intimating her of the untold hardship students were subjected to and several thefts that had taken place there. In our letter, we hinted the governor through the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Uche Onyeguocha, how many of our female students had stopped attending school owing to attempts and threats to invade the school by hoodlums who are also villagers of the new location.

It is therefore inexplicable that some persons for political reasons are alleging that outsiders at the instance of the Imo government were responsible for the attacks on our students and destruction of school vehicles.

It is on record that earlier before now, hoodlums had invaded the school and made away with the only generator set available to the school, leaving us in total darkness. Those who want to have on the spot analysis should visit the school at Ogboko to know how inhabitable the new site is.

Finally, we call on the government of the day to investigate this ugly development which if not the professional way the management of the school handled it, would have gone out of hand and casualties recorded”,the release concluded.
