It was a melo-drama yesterday, June 13, 2019, at the Imo State House of Assembly complex, when the former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Acho Ihim dumped the Action Alliance (AA) for the PDP.

He had joined his colleagues at the Imo Assembly complex for the swearing-in ceremony and inauguration of the 27 members of the 9th Imo Assembly.

During the 2019 electioneering that culminated to the March 9, 2019 governorship election, Acho Ihim accepted to be Okorocha’s son-in-law, Uche Nwosu running mate under APC.

Acho Ihim had also through his media aide maintained that he was the only speaker for the 8th Assembly. He said that, going by the 2015 House rule, only ranking officers can assume the office of Speaker. He then said that Chinedu Offor, having negated the provision of the 2015 House Rule, committed gross illegality and his Speakership, null, void and of no effect, especially since he was not elected with the House mace.

Speaking after the inauguration of the 9th Imo House of Assembly members,Ihim announced his defection to the PDP, which platform he described as his “home”. According to Ihim, the Umualumoke Okigwe born politician, “I have come back to PDP, my home”.He received a rousing ovation from the crowd.

In a phone interview he granted Watchdog Newspaper after the ceremony, Acho Ihim said, “there must be an end to litigations. We have tried, now that another person has emerged, he should be given chance to serve Imo people. As a progressive Imolite, I want the best for our people”. The end to litigation appears to be his sole reason for leaving AA and dumping Uche Nwosu.

From all indications and as predicted by Acho Ihim, his exit and disregard for the election Petition challenging the victory of Emeka Ihedioha, which is at the tribunals is the end of Uche Nwosu’s aspiration.

According to pundits, “it is not only calamitous. It is a tragedy, coming on the heels of the withdrawal of AA, from Uche Nwosu’s petition. Those the gods want to destroy, they first make mad.
