The vibrant and cerebral Acting Director General of Imo Civil Guard, Mr Martin Ekeh, over the weekend paid a courtesy visit to the Brigade Commander, Brigadier general Y.I Tukura , at the 12 battalion located at Obinze, Owerri West LGA of Imo State.
The visit which had in attendance other senior military officers in the Command was specifically to discuss areas of collaboration between the Imo Civil Guard and the Army in Imo state to serve the state better in the security of lives and property of citizens.
Speaking during the visit, the Mbaitoli born Lawyer turned security expert, stated that the partnership with the Army is an age long ritual between his agency and the Army but observed that unfortunately, that level of collaboration was not harnessed in the past. He promised that the Imo Civil Guard as presently constituted will leave no stone unturned in efforts aimed at ensuring the cordial relationship that existed between them is re-established in Imo, especially in the area of crime fighting.
He informed the host that his duty is further made easy, considering the fact that the incumbent governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedhioha gives them free hand and the necessary funds for optimal operation.
Responding, the youthful Brigade Commander, Takura , commended Ekeh, for the good work as evidenced in the professional conduct of his men scattered all over Owerri and beyond. He revealed how the paramilitary outfit could be used to curb corruption but will start with the officers who he said should live above board, in all their official dealings.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a special award by the brigade Commander to the Director of Imo Civil Guard, Martin Ekeh.
Presenting the award, he noted that he had in mind to extend such gesture and appreciation to the Acting Commandant General of Imo Civil Guard, in view of his commitment to duty but was waiting for an opportunity like this. He encouraged him to keep the flag flying while assuring that his command is ever ready to partner with Imo Civil Guard in ensuring that Imo is a safe heaven for all residents and visitors.
