The Imo State House of Assembly on Wednesday 3rd of June, 2020 adopted a motion presented at the floor of the House to conduct a special investigation into the financial dealings of the twenty seven local government council under the immediate past interim council Chairmen from July,2019 to January,2020.

The initiator of the motion is Hon Uche Ogbuagu, sponsor of the motion is,Majority leader and member representing Ikeduru state constituency.

Presenting the motion,Ogbuagu recalled that the administration of Senator Hope Uzodimma came on board on 14th January, 2020, and wherein on assumption, directed dissolution of the interim management Councils of the twenty seven local governments in Imo state on the 15th of January, 2020 and ordered the immediate redeployment of Treasurers.

He also noted that all Treasurers moved to their new deployment, but in utter defiance of governor’s directive some stayed back and continued to make withdrawals from bank accounts of their former local government of deployment in collaboration with the sacked interim council Chairmen.

He further explained that at the economic forum of stakeholders and Traditional rulers held in the twenty seven local government as directed by  governor Hope Uzodimma, there were allegations against the former interim Chairmen and former Treasurers for continued withdrawals of money from the accounts of their former council, as report were that the sums withdrawn were used to mobilize youths in the twenty seven local governments for a 5days agitations for the review of the supreme Court Judgement against the former governor Emeka Ihedioha.

He also expressed concern at the report of disobedience to the directive of senator Hope Uzodimma, by the interim council Chairmen and Treasurers which he regards as an action taken too far.”Also, the huge sum of money expended in the youth mobilization for the review of supreme Court Judgement against Emeka Ihedioha and the spurious contracts awarded which were no where a reflection of what is on ground”,Ogbuagu recalled.

He therefore appealed to the House of Assembly to constitute an adhoc committee of the House to investigate all contracts, documents, payments vouchers, cheques and internally generated revenue (IGR), transacts/projects claimed to have been executed by the former chairmen and treasurers of the twenty seven interim management committes and the findings of the committee be forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissioner for prosecution of indicted persons.

Supporting the motion, most of the House members gave thumbs up and accolades to the mover of the motion, Hon. Amb. Uche Ogbuagu, for presenting such a wonderful motion which they said will serve as precautionary measure to all that holds position of authority, whether elected or under appointment to caution themselves because there will be a day of accountability.
