Youth Leaders from 27 Local Government Areas (LGA) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State on Tuesday, July 20, 2020 at the Party State Secretariat, Okigwe Road, Owerri held their extra-ordinary maiden meeting, led by the Ag. State Youth Leader, Hon. Greg Nwadike GOC.


In his address to the Youth Leaders, the State Chairman, Sir Martin Ejiogu, thanked them for offering to serve the party in this capacity. He assured them that they will not regret their decision. He told them that they were the future leaders of the party both at the wards, LGAs, State and National levels, urging them to be serious and focused. The Imo PDP State Chairman harped on the need for the Youth Leaders to remain loyal because loyalty is a major criterion for leadership election, appointments and assignments for anybody.


Sir Ejiogu, specifically charged them to eschew betrayal and sabotage of the party at any time as those that were known for such character and conduct have destroyed their political career and future. He encouraged them to meet on regular basis, at all levels to discuss and strategize on how to sustain Imo PDP as the true democratic party for Imo State and Imo people.
Earlier in his introductory speech, Hon. Greg Nwadike, the Ag. State Youth Leader, stated that the meeting was a maiden one which was convened to enable the all the Zonal Youth Leaders, and all LGA Youth Leaders to meet with the Acting State Youth Leader, so that they may know one another, as well as fashion out their modus operandi, going forward. Hon. Greg Nwadike on behalf of the Youth Leaders of Imo PDP pledged to play their part well and not to disappoint the party.


Significantly, a number of notable elders and leaders of Imo PDP graced the maiden meeting at the invitation of the Acting State Youth Leader. They included Barr. Peter Mgbenwelu (Dundun); Rt. Hon. Chuma Nnaji, immediate past Commissioner for Public Utilities, Imo State; and Engr. Ben Ekwueme, immediate past Commissioner for Works, Imo State. They gave some vital words of advice and encouragement to the Youth Leaders, assuring them of the support of the party.


Also present at the maiden meeting were other members of the State Working Committee (SWC), including Hon. Nze Ray Emeaña, State Secretary; Barr. Josiah Eze, State Treasurer; Nze Law Biaduo, State Organizing Secretary; Hon. Chief Mrs. Maria Mbakwe, State Women Leader; Barr. Kissinger Ikeokwu Ag. State Legal Adviser; and Ogubundu Nwadike, Ag. State Publicity Secretary.


In his address, Hon. Nze Ray Emeaña, the State Secretary, charged the youth leaders to be up and doing in making PDP in their respective LGAs very vibrant with enriching and rewarding youth-oriented activities aimed at attracting more and more youths into the party. He hinted on the various programmes lined up for the empowerment of Imo PDP youths. While assuring them of the full support of the party, he cautioned them against any acts that are capable of bringing them shame and disgrace.


The meeting after the elders, leaders and SWC members departed, later went into closed session of the Ag. State Youth Leader, the Zonal Youth Leaders, and the LGA Youth Leaders.
